For official comment, Florida DBPR media: https://www2.myfloridalicense.com/news-room/ WHAT IS COUNTED - Only contractor licenses (certified and registered types). Business records, financial officers, courses and course providers in the same state file are left out. - "Due" = certified licenses whose July 27, 2026 record still showed an Aug. 31, 2026 end date, meaning they had not yet renewed. Registered (local) licenses renew in odd years and are not "due" here. - "Renewed" = the Oct. 27, 2026 record shows Aug. 31, 2028. Some were renewed late, after Aug. 31. "Active" and "inactive" are the license's secondary status in that record. - "Not in file" = the license number is not in the Oct. 27, 2026 file. The state's public file leaves out delinquent, null and void, and involuntarily inactive licenses. Not being in the file does not by itself mean the holder stopped working, closed a business, or broke the law; they may renew late, hold another license, or have retired. We looked up 14 such licenses on the state's site on Oct. 20, 2026 (picked by license type, not at random); all 14 showed as delinquent. - County = the county code in the July 27, 2026 license record, which follows the address on file. (Missing licenses have no October record, so the July county is used for every count.) It is not necessarily where the contractor works. Certified licenses can be used anywhere in Florida. - "Active roofing licenses" = certified (CCC) plus registered (RC) roofing licenses with primary status Current and secondary status Active, by county of the address on file. - Rates built on fewer than 100 licenses are flagged; treat them with care. - Shares "of due" use the 59,016 licenses not yet renewed in July as the base, so they run higher than shares of all 114,987 certified licenses. - totals.csv all_certified_* rows split every certified license in the July 27, 2026 file into five groups that add up to certified_licenses_in_july_file. "Already showed the 2028 date" includes licenses first issued in 2026, so it is not a count of renewals. - Electricians and alarm contractors are licensed by a separate state board and are not in this file. - Counts only. No names, addresses or license numbers are published.
